Fumigation is the process of exposing insects, or material infested by insects, to the fumes of a chemical at lethal strength in an enclosed space for a given period of time. A fumigant is a chemical that, at a required temperature and pressure, exists in the gaseous state in sufficient concentration to be lethal to a given pest organism.
The toxic gas is introduced in high concentration so it infiltrates the entire area, eliminates the insects, and thus preserves the customer's precious cargo. Highly effective fumigants such as Methyl Bromide and Phosphine are used to eradicate pests from products, produce and locations — ships, containers, wood, agricultural land, foodstuff, aircraft and more.
